The redevelopment of the iconic Guildford Hotel continues to gain momentum with the levelling and clean-up of the site and plans for the partial re-roofing being recently supported by The Heritage Council.
The Heritage Council was pleased that the plans for the re-roofing will be largely consistent with the original roof form and will be a positive outcome for the building.
The proposal applies to the all-important section of the roof which comprises the enclosed portion of the Hotel and is integral to further protecting and holding together of the existing structure.
This is great timing for the progression of the redevelopment with the Minister for Heritage, the Hon. Albert Jacob MLA today announcing a grant of up to $100,000 (the maximum grant funding available in any one year) for the reconstruction of the Guildford Hotel’s belvedere and roof.
The Heritage Grants is a competitive program that promotes best practice in conservation work . Project Architects, Fratelle Group will work closely with the TPG Town Planning, Urban Design and Heritage to assist the owners bring the heritage building back to life.
The grant funding is on a matched funding basis with the owner’s contributing at least dollar for dollar. In this case it is the start of the extensive works the owner intends to carry out to enable the hotel to once again serve the public.
“It’s another great step forward”, commented Kylee Schoonens from Fratelle Group, “The installation of the roof will help to tie the building together structurally, and protect it from the elements.”
Subsequent to this support, an amended Development Application was submitted to The City of Swan on Monday, 6 Oct 2014 which is expected to take up to 90 days to determine.”
In a statement from Owner Luke Martino he said; ‘We are delighted with the progress so far. We are grateful for the support and enthusiasm from The State Government, The State Heritage Office and Heritage Council as well as The City of Swan and we hope we can continue this momentum.” says Martino.
